How to Work Self-Hypnosis into your Daily Routine

How to Work Self-Hypnosis into your Daily Routine

One of the main problems with self-hypnosis, is that more often than not people forget to do it. They might practice once or twice, but everyday life gets in the way and so hypnotherapy goes by the wayside. If you are able to work self-hypnosis into your daily routine though, it offers so many benefits. Including the reduction of stress and helping you to get better sleep.

If you’re serious about hypnotherapy and you feel that making self-hypnosis a daily habit could help you, then there are a few simple ways to work it into your daily routine. You have to want to do it and it may not always be easy, but it can be done!

Recognise when you have natural down time –

First of all, you need to sit down and think about the structure of your average day. Naturally your day will have busy periods and times when you get to rest for a few minutes. The key is to pick out the times when you regularly have a little down time, that way you’re not trying to squeeze hypnotherapy into an already busy period. Ideally this will be a time when you’re by yourself and the chance of distraction is slim to none.

Practice makes perfect –

One you’ve managed to work out the perfect time to practice regularly, you need to do just that. As a self-hypnosis beginner you’ll probably find that it takes time for you to fully relax, in order to feel the benefit. You have to remember that the more you practice, the quicker and easier it will become. I know people who can reach a hypnotic state in a very short space of time, but that’s only because they’ve made the time to practice!

Don’t make it feel like a chore –

Once something starts to feel like a chore, we’re less likely to give it the attention it deserves. That’s why you need to approach self-hypnosis in a relaxed manner. Don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t work the first time. Don’t panic if you get distracted. Just take each session as it comes and enjoy it. It’s also a good idea to change your routine slightly at regular intervals, that way you won’t get bored with repeating the same old session.

Remember, it take 66 days to form a habit –

At the beginning of your hypnotherapy journey, it’s essential that you remember that practicing everyday won’t come naturally to you. As with all good things, it takes time and effort to achieve. Research suggests that it takes 66 days to form a habit, so if you really want to work self-hypnosis into your daily routine you should give it the time it deserves to see if it’s going to be a benefit to you.

Four Ways to Look After your Long-Term Health

Four Ways to Look After your Long-Term Health

Ever since I had children, looking after my long-term health has become so important to me. Before our girls were born I wasn’t healthy. Skinny? Yes. Healthy? No. I didn’t eat the right foods, I spent far too much time in the gym and I drank far too  much alcohol at the weekend. I was a typical young, twenty-something with only myself to worry about. It’s amazing how your mindset changes when you have kids though. Suddenly you have to start looking past the end of your nose.

The main reason I decided to really take care of my long-term health, is because I want to be here for as long as I can for my children. So I resolved to make a few very important lifestyle changes, to help make sure I’m fighting fit for the forseeable!

Here are four great ways to look after your long-term health;

Cut down on alcohol –

I’ve written before about the reasons why I cut alcohol out of my life. In a nutshell though, too much alcohol just isn’t good for you. Drinking too much can cause high blood pressure, obesity, depression, addiction and it’s also been related to breast cancer in women. Cutting down on your alcohol consumption, or cutting it out all together reduces your risk of developing these conditions and so is the perfect way to look after your long-term health.

Make sure treats are just that –

I LOVE treats. Whether they’re sweet treats or a naughty meal, I enjoy every second of eating them. The thing is, treats can become the norm if we aren’t careful. Since I began following a Slimming World meal plan , I’ve found it much easier to monitor what I east during the day. Their ‘syn’ method of counting the calorific foods we eat is a great way to make sure I’m not over doing it on the high sugar, high fat foods.

Exercise, but not too much –

If you’re eating well, around 30 minutes of exercise each day is healthy. It get’s your blood pumping, increases your fitness levels and makes you feel great. As someone who has been at both ends of the exercise spectrum, I can tell you that too much exercise is unhealthy. In order to look after your long-term health, it’s all about moderation!

Invest in a little self-care –

Stress is one of the most complained about conditions. If you let it get on top of you, it can lead to a whole host of health problems. Lack of sleep, depression, anxiety and over-eating to name but a few. Taking some time out for yourself is the ideal way to reduce your stress levels, before they get too much. Long-term stress can even contribute to heart attacks and strokes, so it’s definitely worth taking some time out before it’s too late.

Four Reasons Why I Cut Alcohol Out of my Life

Four Reasons Why I Cut Alcohol Out of my Life

It’s been nearly a year since I cut alcohol out of my life. At first I stopped drinking as the result of a particularly bad hangover. I’d been out, woken up feeling like death and decided it was time to take a break. The weeks and months went by and I still didn’t feel like drinking. So I decided that actually, I don’t really need to drink at all. It adds no value to my life and I certainly hadn’t missed it when I took a break. So I decided that I would cut the stuff out of my life for good. Do you know something? It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I want to look after my health, long-term –

Ever since having children I’ve become more aware and concerned about the things that can affect my long-term health. I’ve become conscious about what I put into my body, what’s good for me and what’s not. I want to be around for my children for as long as I can and not only that, I want to stay as fit and as healthy as possible for me. Alcohol consumption is related to so many health problems, including high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke and breast cancer in women. All of which I want to do my utmost to avoid.

It makes me anxious –

Have you ever woken up after a night out and worried about the things you may have said, or the things you may have done? This was me constantly. I would question my husband the next morning, even if I’d only had one glass of wine. Did I come across OK? Was I rude to anyone? Did I do anything embarrassing or stupid? As an anxious person, I spend a lot of my time in a blur of apprehension. These days, I don’t want to add to that by drinking alcohol.

I can’t stand hangovers –

Maybe it’s my age, but I just can’t stand being ill. Now that I have two children, there’s no way I can stay in bed and sleep off a hangover. I have to be up to entertain the kids, whether I like it or not. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than a toddler/hangover combination!

I drank it for the wrong reasons –

One of the most important reasons I decided to give up alcohol, is due to the fact I drank it for the wrong reasons. I would drink to numb anxiety. I would drink at the end of a bad day and I would drink ‘just because’. Then one day it dawned on me that I was probably having bad days, because I was a little hungover. I realised that alcohol only helps with anxiety for a very short time, then it just makes it worse. I couldn’t think of one good reason to carry on drinking, so I stopped.

I have no problem with anyone else drinking, I’ve just learnt the hard way that it’s not for me!

Nacomi Green Clay Face & Body Mask Review

Nacomi Green Clay Face & Body Mask Review

*I was gifted a Nacomi Green Clay mask for he purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This has been a really fun review for me, as I’m not a huge user of face masks. They’re something that I always think about doing, but never seem to have the time. Well, thanks so Nacomi I had to make the time and I loved it!

The beauty of the Nacomi masks –

  • They are all natural.
  • They are vegan friendly.
  • They cleanse and the body and face.
  • They are incredibly relaxing to use.

How to use the Nacomi Green Clay mask –

Mixing and applying this mask couldn’t be more simple! All you have to do is mix the powder with the activator, until you until the product becomes a thick paste. Once you’ve done this, apply the mask generously to you face. I found it easier to use an old make-up brush to apply the mask, but fingers or wooden applicators work great too! Leave the mask until it’s dry, then remove with warm water.

What do I love about the Nacomi mask?

As someone with naturally oily skin, I often struggle with keeping on top of the shine, especially towards the end of the day. This product, when used regularly is really good at removing excess oil. Reducing the greasiness of my skin. This product is also great at exfoliating dead skin cells, reducing that flaky appearance. There’s nothing worse than putting your make up on and having to try to hide flaking skin. This products helps to remove the flakiness before you even attempt to put your face on!

The thing I love most about this product is that it leaves my skin feeling fresh and revitalised after I’ve used it. I like to use it a couple of times a week, it gives me a bit of ‘me time’ whilst also keeping my skin in tip-top condition. I highly recommend this mask!

ORGANii Everyday Organics – Review

ORGANii Everyday Organics – Review

*I was gifted a selection of products for the purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The regular readers among you will know that anything hair and beauty is right up my street! I’m a sucker for creams, cosmetics, hair products and anything else that I can use to give myself a but of a pamper. This week I’ve had a ball trying out a few different organic products from ORGANii Everyday Organics!

ORGANii Everyday Organics are a company that have the consumer at heart. They create natural and organic products, that are also suitable for individuals practising veganism to use. A lot of their products are certified organic by ECOCERT. This is a range that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing out and I’ve been super impressed with the quality of each of the products. I’m a big fan of their packaging too, it’s simple yet effective and outlines the ethos of the brand perfectly.

So, what did I get to try out?

Lavender Liquid Soap –

We’re one of those families that are always washing our hands! We get through so many pots of hand wash and frankly often we’re glad to have gotten to the end of some. This one however, we all loved! It smells amazing, you only need a small squirt, so it’s sure to last for ages and it has moisturising qualities to help stop our hands drying out. What more could you need from a hand wash?!

Aloe Mouthwash, Citrus –

This product is great, if like me, you aren’t keen on a harsh mouthwash. You know, the ones that sting the inside of your mouth as you’re gargling away! This one leaves you feeling (and smelling) fresh without feeling uncomfortable.

Hand Cream –

As a hairdresser, my hands are always dry. Due to my job I often handle harsh products and my hands are constantly in and out of water. At the end of the day they always feel dry and sore. I also find it hard to get on with some hand creams as I’m not a fan of the greasy feeling after I’ve applied it. I was pleasantly surprised with this cream though, it rubbed right in and I could carry on as normal, without leaving a trail of cream on whatever I touched. This is a product that I’ll continue to use!

SPF 50 Sun Milk –

Like most other parents I won’t take my children outdoors during nice weather, without them being lathered in sun cream. This SPF 50 Sun Milk is the ideal product for the job. It’s non-perfumed, so it doesn’t have that ‘sun cream smell’, you know the one I mean! It’s also another non-greasy product, which is great.

SPF 15 Anti-Ageing Facial Sun Cream –

I must admit, I always forget to moisturise. I only ever get around to it when my skin starts flaking and obviously by that point it’s too late. This has to be my favourite product out of the lot as it’s, you guessed it, non-greasy. This means that my face doesn’t become shiny and slippery after use. It’s also has anti-ageing qualities, that has to be a bonus now that I’m pushing 30!

Overall, I don’t have a bad word to say about this fabulous selection from ORGANii Everyday Organics. Well done guys, keep up the good work!

Three Reasons I Love Following a Slimming World Meal Plan

Three Reasons I Love Following a Slimming World Meal Plan

Now this post may seem like a bit of a back track, as I recently wrote about why conforming to diet culture isn’t for me. I still stand by everything I said in this post. It’s just that recently, I came across Slimming World and how it’s followers plan their meals. I’m not saying I’m totally on board with the whole plan. I’m not enamoured by the idea of limiting exercise and I also don’t think weighing in weekly is healthy. After all, our mental health is as important as our physical health. Being obsessed with our weight can have a detrimental affect on mental health, especially if the results aren’t always what we desire. There are some parts of the plan I like though.

Food in our house is very important. It’s what we do for fun and how we are glued together as a family. We love nothing more than enjoying a good meal, in good company. Neither Hubs nor I  drink alcohol, we don’t smoke and to be honest we don’t over indulge ourselves by any other means. We do adore eating though and that’s why we need healthy food that tastes amazing too. There’s nothing worse than living on bland, boring food. Enjoyment is paramount and that’s where Slimming World comes in.

Here are three reasons I love following a Slimming World meal plan;

It offers a huge variety of food –

If you’ve followed different diets in the past, you’ll know that they don’t always over a huge variety of food. Often you’re stuck with the same few ingredients, with little scope as to what to do with them. I remember trying out a shake diet many years ago, that has to get top marks for the most boring diet ever thought up. Slimming World celebrates food and teaches you how to incorporate most thing into your meal plan. Goodbye same old, boring meals!

The taste of food is as important as it being healthy –

My favourite part of the Slimming World ethos is that food can taste amazing, as well as being good for us. It all boils down to how we prepare it and how we cook it. It’s a real education when you delve into how to cook for health, just changing a few simple things can change a meal from ‘bad’ to ‘good’! If you’re like us and you love your food to be tasty and healthy, then checking out a few Slimming World recipes is a great idea. Even if you don’t follow the plan, you’ll be surprised at how much you want to try some of their dishes.

Meals are often quick and easy to put together –

Now I like food, but I really have to be in the mood to cook. At the end of the day, when I’ve battled with work and kids, the last thing I want to do is spend another couple of hours in the kitchen. This is when reaching for the takeaway menu seems like the best option. A lot of recipes from Slimming World are really simple to put together and often they take very little time to cook. Taking the effort out of cooking is what a lot of us need, in order to fit the rest of our lives into a day. So, if you’re looking for quick and easy meals Slimming World is a good place to start.

Four Benefits of Hypnotherapy

Four Benefits of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy has been used for many, many years. People use it for relaxation, personal therapy and even during childbirth. It’s often used to help people stop smoking and to lose weight, in fact it’s uses are almost endless. If hypnotherapy is something that you’re willing to consider adding to your life, you need to know just how beneficial it can be.

Here are four benefits of adding hypnotherapy to your life;

Helps to reduce stress –

These days we all live incredibly busy lives. Our days are often none-stop, so taking time out for ourselves gets put on the back-burner. This lack of rest, mentally and physically, means that many of use are carrying around far more stress than is healthy. Making time to fit just ten minutes of hypnotherapy into your day can help to reduce stress immensely. It gives you the time to completely relax your body and your mind, allowing you to compartmentalise your life and thus deal with daily issues more effectively.

Help change negative thought patterns –

Hypnotherapy is often used in personal therapy, as a tool to alter negative thought patterns. Finding yourself stuck in a rut with negative thoughts is very common and nothing to be ashamed of. However, recognising it as a problem and seeking help isn’t always at the top of everyone’s priority list. Through the use of self-hypnosis or by enlisting the help of a hypnotherapist, negative thought patterns can be challenged and changed. Hypnotherapy is a great way to break the cycle, which can improve your mood and your outlook on life immeasurably.

Helps with pain management –

I touched on people using hypnotherapy during childbirth earlier on in this post. Hypno-birthing is becoming more common and is proven to help some women during labour. Similarly, hypnotherapy can be used to control the pain experienced by individuals with chronic illnesses.

Helps to improve sleep –

As hypnotherapy is based on relaxation, it’s inevitable that it can help improve sleep patterns in those that practice regularly. If you get into the habit of using a little self-hypnosis before bed, you’ll find yourself becoming more relaxed and in better control of your thoughts. So many of us find that once we hit the hay, our minds run away with irrelevant thoughts, that often keep us awake until the small hours. Using hypnotherapy can stop this process in its tracks, ensuring that you get the rest that you need.

Hypnotherapy isn’t always given the credit that it deserves. It’s not some ‘airy-fairy’ treatment process, for those who wish to avoid medical treatment. It’s also not a process whereby you’ll be made to parade around unwillingly. It’s relaxation therapy, that offers many benefits to those that use it.

Why you Should Skip the Blow-Dry Once in a While

Why you Should Skip the Blow-Dry Once in a While

For a long time I was guilty of using my hair dryer every single day. I would get up early, wash my hair and dry it on a high heat before running out of the door to work. Sound familiar?  So many of us blow-dry our hair everyday, it’s quick, convenient and let’s face it, we’re never going to achieve that salon look with using a hairdryer.

Even though I’m a hairdresser and I advise people on hair care regularly, I don’t always take my own pearls of wisdom on board. I know when I’ve over done it with the hairdryer and have had to use repair masks on so many occasions, as I’ve damaged my locks with too much heat. If like me you’re a fan of a the hairdryer, here are three reasons why you should step back and skip the blow-dry once in a while;

Too much heat can dry hair out –

Not only do we use hairdryers on a regular basis, but this is often followed by straighteners or curling wands too. That’s double the heat on hair that can only take so much. All this will do is dry your hair out, leaving it looking frazzled and feeling brittle. If you know you’re going to be using styling irons, it’s a good idea to leave enough time for your hair to dry naturally. That way you aren’t applying too much heat all in one go.

Frazzled hair can split more –

Once your hair starts to become dry and brittle, it’s at risk of splitting more than it should. One your hair has split, the only way to repair it is to cut it and wait for healthy hair to grow in its place. So unless you want to have to keep chopping your locks, taking a break from the extra heat can help keep those split ends at bay!

Too much heat can cause long-lasting damage to the hair cuticle –

Applying too much heat to your hair, or drying up the hair shaft instead of down can cause damage to the cuticle. Once you’ve cause this damage it’s often irreparable. This is one of the main reasons why you should skip the blow-dry once in a while, you don’t want to cause long-lasting damage to hair that you spend so much time looking after. If you can’t always avoid using the hairdryer, make sure that you angle the dryer down, moving from root to tip. This will help keep the cuticle safe from damage, as well as keeping your hair looking shiny and healthy.
