Nacomi Green Clay Face & Body Mask Review

Nacomi Green Clay Face & Body Mask Review

*I was gifted a Nacomi Green Clay mask for he purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This has been a really fun review for me, as I’m not a huge user of face masks. They’re something that I always think about doing, but never seem to have the time. Well, thanks so Nacomi I had to make the time and I loved it!

The beauty of the Nacomi masks –

  • They are all natural.
  • They are vegan friendly.
  • They cleanse and the body and face.
  • They are incredibly relaxing to use.

How to use the Nacomi Green Clay mask –

Mixing and applying this mask couldn’t be more simple! All you have to do is mix the powder with the activator, until you until the product becomes a thick paste. Once you’ve done this, apply the mask generously to you face. I found it easier to use an old make-up brush to apply the mask, but fingers or wooden applicators work great too! Leave the mask until it’s dry, then remove with warm water.

What do I love about the Nacomi mask?

As someone with naturally oily skin, I often struggle with keeping on top of the shine, especially towards the end of the day. This product, when used regularly is really good at removing excess oil. Reducing the greasiness of my skin. This product is also great at exfoliating dead skin cells, reducing that flaky appearance. There’s nothing worse than putting your make up on and having to try to hide flaking skin. This products helps to remove the flakiness before you even attempt to put your face on!

The thing I love most about this product is that it leaves my skin feeling fresh and revitalised after I’ve used it. I like to use it a couple of times a week, it gives me a bit of ‘me time’ whilst also keeping my skin in tip-top condition. I highly recommend this mask!

ORGANii Everyday Organics – Review

ORGANii Everyday Organics – Review

*I was gifted a selection of products for the purpose of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The regular readers among you will know that anything hair and beauty is right up my street! I’m a sucker for creams, cosmetics, hair products and anything else that I can use to give myself a but of a pamper. This week I’ve had a ball trying out a few different organic products from ORGANii Everyday Organics!

ORGANii Everyday Organics are a company that have the consumer at heart. They create natural and organic products, that are also suitable for individuals practising veganism to use. A lot of their products are certified organic by ECOCERT. This is a range that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing out and I’ve been super impressed with the quality of each of the products. I’m a big fan of their packaging too, it’s simple yet effective and outlines the ethos of the brand perfectly.

So, what did I get to try out?

Lavender Liquid Soap –

We’re one of those families that are always washing our hands! We get through so many pots of hand wash and frankly often we’re glad to have gotten to the end of some. This one however, we all loved! It smells amazing, you only need a small squirt, so it’s sure to last for ages and it has moisturising qualities to help stop our hands drying out. What more could you need from a hand wash?!

Aloe Mouthwash, Citrus –

This product is great, if like me, you aren’t keen on a harsh mouthwash. You know, the ones that sting the inside of your mouth as you’re gargling away! This one leaves you feeling (and smelling) fresh without feeling uncomfortable.

Hand Cream –

As a hairdresser, my hands are always dry. Due to my job I often handle harsh products and my hands are constantly in and out of water. At the end of the day they always feel dry and sore. I also find it hard to get on with some hand creams as I’m not a fan of the greasy feeling after I’ve applied it. I was pleasantly surprised with this cream though, it rubbed right in and I could carry on as normal, without leaving a trail of cream on whatever I touched. This is a product that I’ll continue to use!

SPF 50 Sun Milk –

Like most other parents I won’t take my children outdoors during nice weather, without them being lathered in sun cream. This SPF 50 Sun Milk is the ideal product for the job. It’s non-perfumed, so it doesn’t have that ‘sun cream smell’, you know the one I mean! It’s also another non-greasy product, which is great.

SPF 15 Anti-Ageing Facial Sun Cream –

I must admit, I always forget to moisturise. I only ever get around to it when my skin starts flaking and obviously by that point it’s too late. This has to be my favourite product out of the lot as it’s, you guessed it, non-greasy. This means that my face doesn’t become shiny and slippery after use. It’s also has anti-ageing qualities, that has to be a bonus now that I’m pushing 30!

Overall, I don’t have a bad word to say about this fabulous selection from ORGANii Everyday Organics. Well done guys, keep up the good work!

Why you Should Skip the Blow-Dry Once in a While

Why you Should Skip the Blow-Dry Once in a While

For a long time I was guilty of using my hair dryer every single day. I would get up early, wash my hair and dry it on a high heat before running out of the door to work. Sound familiar?  So many of us blow-dry our hair everyday, it’s quick, convenient and let’s face it, we’re never going to achieve that salon look with using a hairdryer.

Even though I’m a hairdresser and I advise people on hair care regularly, I don’t always take my own pearls of wisdom on board. I know when I’ve over done it with the hairdryer and have had to use repair masks on so many occasions, as I’ve damaged my locks with too much heat. If like me you’re a fan of a the hairdryer, here are three reasons why you should step back and skip the blow-dry once in a while;

Too much heat can dry hair out –

Not only do we use hairdryers on a regular basis, but this is often followed by straighteners or curling wands too. That’s double the heat on hair that can only take so much. All this will do is dry your hair out, leaving it looking frazzled and feeling brittle. If you know you’re going to be using styling irons, it’s a good idea to leave enough time for your hair to dry naturally. That way you aren’t applying too much heat all in one go.

Frazzled hair can split more –

Once your hair starts to become dry and brittle, it’s at risk of splitting more than it should. One your hair has split, the only way to repair it is to cut it and wait for healthy hair to grow in its place. So unless you want to have to keep chopping your locks, taking a break from the extra heat can help keep those split ends at bay!

Too much heat can cause long-lasting damage to the hair cuticle –

Applying too much heat to your hair, or drying up the hair shaft instead of down can cause damage to the cuticle. Once you’ve cause this damage it’s often irreparable. This is one of the main reasons why you should skip the blow-dry once in a while, you don’t want to cause long-lasting damage to hair that you spend so much time looking after. If you can’t always avoid using the hairdryer, make sure that you angle the dryer down, moving from root to tip. This will help keep the cuticle safe from damage, as well as keeping your hair looking shiny and healthy.

Eco Cosmetics Hair Styling Range – Review

Eco Cosmetics Hair Styling Range – Review

The hairdresser in me always keen to try out new products. Over the years I’ve have tried so many, some I have loved and others not so much. I’m always trying them out on my clients too and like to get their opinion on what I’m using and what they’re looking for in a product.

This week, I got to put my hairdressing hat on to test out the ECOCERT certified, natural and organic hair products from Eco Cosmetics

The Products –

I was sent the gloss and volume mousse and hair spray from the Eco Cosmetics hair styling range. Both products include an array of natural ingredients including; goji berries to help improve the strength of hair and pomegranate to give our locks a moisture injection! The packaging of the product is clean and simple, giving them an eco friendly look to match what’s inside. Both products have a fruity fragrance too, but one that isn’t too over powering. This is a plus point for me as not all of my clients like the strong smell that often comes with hairspray. For them, this product is the perfect alternative.

The Verdict –

The first product I tried out was the mousse, which is also certified vegan by The Vegan Society. I think this product is great to add a boost the hair root, giving volume to sets and blow drys. The key to this product is not to use too much, less is definitely more and this stops your do looking ‘tacky’ when it’s dry. My older clients have been huge fans of this product, it keeps their sets in place and some have even stopped using the old setting lotion since I introduced them to Eco Cosmetics – that’s a compliment in itself!

I’ve tried out the EcoCosmetics hair spray on my own hair as well as on my clients. As it’s a pump spray, it’s the ideal alternative for those clients who don’t like to use aerosols and as I stated earlier, it smells so much better for it. This hair spray has a firm hold, but doesn’t leave hair sticky if you only use a little. A few pumps really is all you need to hold your style, both products will last me some time as they go so far.

Overall, I’m really impressed with these products. It’s a no frills, does what it says on the tin sort of range which I find really refreshing. I’m one happy hairdresser, with equally happy clients thanks to Eco Cosmetics!

Five Qualities you Need in a Hairdresser

Five Qualities you Need in a Hairdresser

Some people love having their hair done. Heading to the salon is an afternoon out, a time for relaxing and enjoying a little time to themselves. For others though, getting a haircut can be a right pain in the bum. Letting someone loose on their locks can be terrifying. I for one have had a few disastrous haircuts in my time, that’s why I prefer to be behind the chair rather than sat in it!

Over the years I’ve worked alongside many different hairdressers. From wedding hairdressers who also had a Wedding blog, to barbers who specialised in men’s hair. From my experience I’ve learned the qualities every hairdresser needs, to make sure they keep their customers happy. It takes a lot to put your trust into someone who’s going to take a pair of scissors to your mane, so it’s essential that you make sure you find a hairdresser that has all of the following qualities in abundance!

Good listening skills –

A hairdresser that doesn’t listen is neither use nor ornament. You need someone who listens intently and takes on board your requirements, reservations and ideas. If they aren’t listening, you can guarantee they will do a poor job.

Good communication skills –

Listening is important, but being able to communicate your requirements back to you shows understanding and that’s paramount. It’s the responsibility of your hairdresser to make sure you are on the same page before they begin working on your new look. If you aren’t convinced they know exactly what you’re after, discuss it further before any cuts are made.

Has experience, or is being closely supervised by a senior stylist –

Now don’t get me wrong here, I know everyone has to learn and some of the best hairdressers I’ve known have been fresh at the game, this is the exception rather than the rule though. If you are happy for an inexperienced stylist to do your hair, then make sure that they have nailed the points above!

Doesn’t get ‘scissor happy’ –

There’s nothing worse than finding out that your hairdresser is a bit too keen with the blades, after they’ve already started chopping. Checking out salon reviews and using hairdressers on recommendation can help avoid losing more hair than your bargained for.

Is honest about what products are right for you and doesn’t just give the hard sell on their most expensive goods –

So many hairdressers will have sale targets to meet on the stock they hold. As much as I can appreciate the position they’re in, I don’t believe that selling clients any old product is on. Hairdressers should be able to advise you on the best products on the market, to suit your hair type and your budget. Don’t let them talk you into parting with mega bucks, for a product that isn’t right for you anyway.

Dry Hair? Three Ways to Add Moisture to your Locks without Getting a Cut!

Dry Hair? Three Ways to Add Moisture to your Locks without Getting a Cut!

We lead busy lives. Whether you have work, kids or both to tend, to finding the time to look after your yourself is often impossible. This lack of pampering can leave you feeling a bit drab, especially when it’s your hair that gets left by the wayside. When your hair looks, you feel good and it’s a huge confidence boost when you’re not having to walk around feeling embarrassed about the state of your hair!

These days I’m a full time blogger, but in a former life hair was my thing and I picked up a whole host of amazing tips and tricks along the way. So here my top three ways to add moisture to your locks and lose the dry ends for good!

Easy on the Heat

How often do you use hairdryers, straighteners and curling wands on your hair? If you’re anything like me, you use them a lot! They’re easy to use, convenient and often essential to achieve the style you want to rock. The thing is, all of this heat is a sure fire way to dry out your hair, leaving it looking dull and feeling brittle.

One of the best ways to replenish moisture is to use heated elements sparingly. If you’re not heading out somewhere special, try out the natural look or use hair pins to control your mane. The less heat on your hair the better to keeping it looking shiny and healthy!

Invest in Quality Products

I know hair products can be expensive, but more often than not you get what you pay for. There are so many good products on the market that are packed full of vitamins and moisture, they will help to put back all of the life that has been stripped out of your hair day to day.

Sometimes you have to go through a bit of trial and error to find what suits your hair type and which products fit into your routine. For example, if you blow dry your hair a lot, serums are good to smooth damaged cuticles. Or if you use straighteners a lot, heat defence sprays are a lifesaver!

A good conditioner is also a must if you want to put the moisture back into your hair. Tip: apply a generous amount the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to avoid the root area becoming greasy, wrap in a warm towel and leave for 10 – 15 minutes. Voila! You hair will feel soft and moisturised!

To Wash or not to Wash?

This point isn’t for everyone, some people just can’t get away without washing their hair on a daily basis. If you can avoid washing your hair too regularly though, you will reap the benefits. Washing your hair too often in warm water opens the cuticle and leaves it subject to damage when you’re brushing and styling. Washing less often can mean less damage!

Tip: if you do wash your hair often, give it a blast of cool water before you get out of the shower. This will help to close the cuticle and reduce damage when styling.
